Effects of Bacillus subtilis on performance, immune system and gut in Salmonella-challenged broilers

The goal of this study was to compare the effects Bacillus subtilis and antibiotic enrofloxacin on growth performance, immune response, intestinal histomorphometry cecal Salmonella numbers in broilers challenged with S. gallinarum. Salmonella-free chicks (n = 240) were allocated four groups, comprising six replicates 10) each. Group NN not infected received no treatment. SN SE treated enrofloxacin. SP orally probiotic B. subtilis. Initially groups that had reduced performance compared NN. By fourth week, recovered weighed as much or more than group greater cellular immunity relative weights bursa thymus other groups. lowest villus height all segments small intestine a larger population ceca.
